A Girl with a Guide-The Holy Ghost

Building a Platform

I first heard the expression “Building a Platform” at the Christian Writers’ Conference that I attended back in October. To be honest, attending my first writers’ conference was a bit daunting. There was a plethora of information coming at me like water from a firefighters’ hose. There were seasoned authors giving workshops, real writers with published works and it was thrilling to me to be a part of this. I was giddy and excited like a schoolgirl with a treasured token.

However, I wasn’t prepared when other attendees asked me, “What do you write?”

Referrals mostly, I thought to myself, I mean I am a middle school English teacher. But seriously, my response to the enduring question was, “I have been writing for years. I have journals full of scribbles, thoughts, scriptures, applications, and stories. Are they organized into publishable pieces? No.” So quite honestly, I was a bit intimidated by the question. I took some time to just ponder what I do write.

This answer is different for every writer. Fiction, nonfiction, devotions, feature articles, kids, middle grades, poetry, and the list goes on. In this season, I write nonfiction about Christian living, hope through scripture and the importance of faith. During the conference, I heard authors talk about the importance of building platforms and forming a community of people who might be inspired and interested in your writing. Hence, this blog was born. I am grateful for the kind souls who read and follow my blog as I begin this new endeavor. At first, I hoped to post weekly, and I do hope to attain that goal at some point. For now, I post here as I am able.

However, I am thrilled to announce that I will be writing a monthly feature article for the online publication Inspire a Fire which is in Word Press. My article will post on the 28th of each month. I am blessed, and grateful to share this exciting news. Thank you for following me on Word Press. I do encourage feedback and please like the post if you do.

Until next time, blessings to you,

Teresa
